Glossary
ADF
An ADF is an Automatic Document Feeder. This feeder processes single
sided originals and places them in the copier.
Analogue
Analogue copiers are the traditional method of copying. They use the
photoelectric rollers to produce copies instead of digitally scanning
the originals.
Bypass
A bypass is a tray that inputs non standard paper into your machine
without using one of your main paper trays. This can be used to change
the weight of the paper for a special document or to print on letterhead
or coloured papers.
Catch Tray
The catch tray is the tray that the copies land in when they are complete.
This is a simple tray without any organization features.
Digital
Digital copiers are state of the art copier technology. They scan and
digitize the originals before they are reproduced. These copiers are
more expensive but more precise than analogue technology copiers.
PPM
PPM is an abbreviation for Pages Per Minute. This number is the number
of copies that the machine can produce in one minute.
RADF
RADF means Reversing Automatic Document Feeder. This feeder can handle
double and single sided originals and place them into the copier to
be copied.
Scan Once, Print Many
This means the copier scans the original document only once and then
stores the data in memory as it prints out the copies. This allows you
to change the original while the machine is still printing the copies.
Sorter
This is a multi bin device that sorts and collates pages as you copy
them. Sorters are available with staplers built in that staple pages
as they are completed.
Toner
The toner is the material that makes the page black in the spots that
it needs to be black. It is not ink, but rather more like a plastic
powder that is set onto the page by heat.
Zoom
This is a copier feature that enlarges or shrinks images or text as
it is being copied.
