Innovations![]() With popularity comes endless innovation. This is why there have been recent developments in the way SMS are being used. Some mobile networks use text messaging to advertise and promote different services to their users. These are called premium rate short messages or PSMS. These short messages, or “alerts” are sent to a user’s phone on a regular daily basis, which may be in the form of information, or news, or scores in the latest basketball game. PSMS is evolving at a fast rate, and is now allowing users to pay for their purchases via their mobile phones. Vending machines in the Far East can be paid for by sending a PSMS. The rate is equivalent to the cost of the product you bought. Phone developers have also increased the character limit in text messages. By developing the concatenated messaging feature, the user can now send a long message, usually broken down into shorter messages when sent, but includes a code that strings the message back together when the recipient reads it.
